SacFilmChallenge is "The Film Festival to Geek and Nerd Out!"
Films, music videos, and new media that express the best of things Drama, Comedy, Geeky, Nerdy, Anime, Cosplay, Fantasy, Sci-fi, Comics, and Sports will screen at a 3-Day Hybrid Event.
The Festival will open with a Live Q&A featuring the filmmakers on Friday, September 19, 2025, and a screening of our first block of films.
Multiple screenings will happen Saturday, September 20th, both Virtual and In-Person at Futures Explored Film & Media Studio - Sacramento.
Futures Explored Film & Media Studio in Sacramento is a vocational training program that teaches the craft of filmmaking to approximately 40 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities while preparing adult students for real-world employment opportunities.
The film festival concludes with the Virtual Award Ceremony on Sunday, September 21st.
2024 Program Highlights:
Keynote Speaker, Andrew Gray, best known for his role as Troy Burrows, the Red Ranger, in Power Rangers Megaforce and Power Rangers Super Megaforce: The Legendary Battle. In addition to his acting career, Andrew is the founder of SuperHeroU, a platform dedicated to personal development, empowering individuals to unlock their potential.
Our Professional Filmmaker Discussion included:
Cricket Sloat – A seasoned Camera & Electrical Department/Instructor, Cricket is celebrated for her work on major Marvel films like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Avengers: Infinity War, and Captain America: Civil War.
Jay Holben – An award-winning independent director/producer based in Los Angeles, Jay is renowned for his recent feature Before the Dawn and his involvement with the American Society of Cinematographers Motion Imaging Technology Council’s film The Mission and author of The Cine Lens Manual.
Maryam Bitre – Producer/UPM, best known for her work on the feature film "My Grown Up Christmas Wish" (2024), starring Mario Lopez and Courtney Lopez and "American Undergog" (2023), starring Danny Trejo and Veronica Falcon.
SacGeeks' mission is to foster geek culture in the Sacramento and surrounding regions' creative economy through engaging geek enthusiasts, businesses, professionals, and creatives with resources, events, networking opportunities, professional development, community education, and outreach.
SacFilmChallenge is a music and film festival organized by filmmakers who live and work in the Sacramento region and who are passionate about the community, the process, and the films made by creatives who employ the highest level of innovation, creativity, and craftsmanship and we want to celebrate them.
Sacramento Film Project is a production company based in Sacramento, California and is made up of a community of filmmakers who collaborate to make micro-budget films and new media content.
